Microgaming has some impressive stats, including a whole bunch of eight-figure wins on Mega Moolah.

The biggest of the lot was over €18.9 million in September 2018, which equates to over $22 million. There have been eight players who’ve won eight figures on Mega Moolah, and that’s before you get to the seven-figure winners or the jackpots on the wider Mega Moolah network, such as Absolootly Mad and Book of Mega Moolah.

The company was formed in 1994, making it one of the oldest and most trusted casino slot providers around.

Yet here’s where things get interesting. You may have seen claims of Microgaming having 800+ games. Many of these have high RTPs of 96%, with some reaching the 97%-98% barrier.

But, if you check their official site, it’s now 500+. Normally, the total number of games from the best casino software providers only goes up, not down. So, what’s the story?

Games Global acquired Microgaming in a mega deal rumoured to be worth between $500 million and $1 billion, and that included sucking up their whole games catalogue. Rather than simply keep a good thing going, Games Global seems to have axed hundreds of Microgaming titles, while tinkering with the code of others.

For example, Immortal Romance – one of Microgaming’s most popular slots – has something called the Michael bonus. When triggered in its Games Global format, winning symbols flash for around 15 seconds and then sometimes get replaced by a glitchy-looking black space.

It seems the code has been messed with, or it’s been ported over incorrectly. If Immortal Romance was one of your go-to games, you’d notice this kind of thing. And it would be bloody annoying, if you’ll excuse the pun.

That said, you’ll see some outdated Microgaming reviews that claim the company no longer makes games and is now focused on non-casino stuff. That’s not true. They’re still very much in the game, and releasing new slots most months.

If you read a Microgaming review which claims they don’t make slots anymore, you can pretty much dismiss everything they say.

Microgaming was never about having incredible graphics, but you’d expect a brand of this magnitude to adapt to the times – like its rival, NetEnt.
